Dreaming Awake Jongeren Project

Sinds 20 januari zijn we bij Marres van start gegaan met het Dreaming Awake Jongeren Project. Elke zaterdag komen jongeren van verschillende middelbare scholen en asielzoekerscentra in Maastricht bij elkaar om met behulp van professionele kunstenaars, dansers en muzikanten hun eigen droomlandschap tot leven te brengen. Later zullen zij het eindproduct van deze samenwerking op hun eigen scholen presenteren.

De afgelopen drie zaterdagen hebben we kennis gemaakt en zijn we aan de slag gegaan met de eerste ideeën. Zo staan er al abstracte kleurrijke droomlandschappen op papier, maar is er ook gewerkt aan beweging en er zijn geluiden opgenomen. Hoe verbeeld je de woestijn of de zee in een beweging? Aan het eind moet alles samenkomen tot een persoonlijke ‘dreamscape’. Hiervoor is het belangrijke dat de zintuigen gebruikt worden in de verbeelding van die droomlandschappen.

Dit jongerenproject gaat vooraf aan de tentoonstelling Dreaming Awake te zien in Marres vanaf 10 maart 2018. Hierbij wordt Marres omgetoverd tot regenwoud, maar zullen ook kunstwerken te zien zijn met Virtual Reality’s en Soundscapes. Hierover later meer op deze blog.

The 20th of January we started with the Dreaming Awake Young Peoples project at Marres. Every Saturday students of different high schools and refugee centers come together to make their dreamlandscapes come alive, helped by professional artists, dancers and musicians. This will form an endproduct that these students will present to their classmates al their schools. 

The last three saterdays we started by getting to know eachother and forming the first ideas. The students already developed some abstract colorfoul landscapes by painting. They also tried to find movements and sounds that corresponded with their dreamlandscapes. How to represent a desert or sea in a movement? To make these dreamlandscapes into full experiences, the students try to use and stimulate all the senses. 

This Young People Project is the beginning of upcoming exhibition ‘Dreaming Awake’ in Marres, March 10, 2018. In this exhibition Marres will be turned into a full rainforest and there will be Soundscapes and Virtual Reality.
